Valuations and Litigation Support

Partners and staff in our firm have many years experience with business valuations and litigation support.  We have undertaken such work for the private sector and governments.  Two of our partners, Michael Casey and Dale Saunders, have their Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation.  Michael Casey has been admitted in the courts as an expert witness.

We have undertaken valuation and litigation assignments in many areas such as:

  • contract disputes;
  • business disruption;
  • insurance claims;
  • shareholder disputes;
  • personal injury;
  • reviewable transactions under bankruptcy legislation;
  • option valuations;
  • purchase and sale of business;
  • estate and succession planning;
  • expropriations; and,
  • income taxation.

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CICBV) administers the program of studies to obtain the CBV degree.  After successfully completing the education program, candidates qualify to take the membership entrance examination that is written once a year across Canada at the same time.

The educational program consists of courses in valuation principles, methods and issues, professional conduct, valuation related merger, acquisition and divestiture topics, the law as it relates to business valuation and relevant valuation related litigation and taxation topics.

Once the CBV designation has been achieved, a member must uphold the CICBV’s code of ethics and practice standards, and undertake annual continuing and professional development activities.
