About Us
Hemming Weir Casey Inc. is an independent firm of Chartered Accountants with offices in Halifax, Digby and Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada . The firm has five partners and nine staff, and is the incorporated successor to Hemming & Co., which was founded over twenty-five years ago. The firm has recently expanded with the opening of the Truro and Digby practices. Locally owned and operated, the firm is committed to a hands-on, proactive approach to service.
The firm has a very attractive and loyal clientele located throughout Nova Scotia. The clientele can be described primarily as owner managed companies and non-profit organizations that prefer the personal attention that comes in dealing with a local firm. Many of these clients have been with the firm since its inception.
In addition to traditional areas such as auditing and accounting, we have been involved with and consulted by our clients in many different areas, some of which are as follows:
- Tax planning, both corporate and personal;
- Projections and business plans to obtain financing and equity;
- Human resource issues;
- Advising on the start up of new operations, expansions, and dispositions;
- Succession planning for family owned businesses;
- Valuing companies for purchase and sale;
- Litigation support;
- Forensic accounting and investigative services; and,
- Advising governments.
All Chartered Accountants in the firm are registered with, and are members in good standing with, both the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.
The firm itself is an Approved Training Office with the Nova Scotia Institute and is listed as Registered Municipal Auditor with the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs. The firm’s owners are licensed to practice public accounting under the Nova Scotia Public Accountants Board.
The firm insists upon continuous professional development, and all partners and staff are required to keep abreast of changing professional standards in auditing, accounting and taxation. This is done primarily through the annual professional development program sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.
To assist with our professional assignments, the firm uses an international audit software package called Caseware, which utilizes audit procedural checklists and guidelines as sanctioned by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. This software is the most widely used of its kind in the world, and when used in the field, in conjunction with notebook computers, makes for very effective audit and accounting work.
